BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING

PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE

  • It is important to drink plenty of water before and after treatment to maintain adequate hydration
  • If you have any serious medical conditions, it is wise to consult your GP prior to treatment
  • Allow time to relax before having the treatment
  • Try to avoid caffeine prior to treatment
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing

POST-TREATMENT ADVICE

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine for 12 hours – massage stimulates blood flow which could increase the effects of alcohol or caffeine
  • Relax – don’t do anything strenuous and rest
  • Avoid direct sunlight and sun beds for 24 hours after treatment – essential oils can make skin photosensitive and more susceptible to burning
NOTE: Immediately after your first appointment, you may look like you have a mild sunburn since your skin will still be noticeably flushed from the treatment process. This fades over the first 24-48 hours and, as your skin begins to heal, you will notice a new glow develop over several weeks.

Questions and Answers

Yes, I frequently combine microneedling with other treatments. It is excellent combined with mesotherapy or chemical peels as the microchannels created in the skin allow the active ingredients to deeply penetrate.

Both combined is usually the best option! I will need to examine your skin at consultation to work out which is best for you but generally speaking Microneedling is better for skin surface texture concerns and Mesotherapy is better for hydration and laxity.

Yes, acne scars are the same as any other scar. All scars are more easily reduced if they are new rather than old so I would advise having treatment sooner rather than later.

A pen is more effective at delivering uniform microchannels at exactly the same depth and angle and it is generally considered more comfortable than roller treatments. My pen device (PhiPen) also allows us to change the depth as many times as required during a single treatment; you cannot change the needle depth on a roller. However, rollers are very good for treating larger areas such as those required for  body treatments – if appropriate I can use a roller for your treatment.

I advise leaving 1 month between treatments. This treatment increases skin cell turnover and the natural adult skin cell cycle is approximately once every 30 days.

Unfortunately I don’t advise having microneedling if you have active inflamed acne lesions. If you have mild acne or congested skin you may be suitable for microneedling treatment – please pop in to the saloon for a free consultation first.

Microneedling alone is not the best treatment for pigmentation.

These treatments do compliment each other in terms of results but they can’t be performed on the same day. I advise that the treatments are performed at least 2 weeks apart.

A topical numbing cream is applied to the area before carrying out microneedling treatments to ensure that any pain is minimised. Variable treatment intensities allow us to further control the comfort of the treatment, and no topical anaesthetic is needed for Microneedling Pen Revitalise & Rejuvenate as the treatment isn’t deep enough to cause any discomfort.

Following microneedling treatment, the collagen and elastin triggering process will continue over the following months and several treatments are usually required to achieve the best results.

You will see a plumping effect almost immediately, however the natural healing process takes time, so it can take up to six weeks before you see significant results.

After treatment, your skin will appear red and flushed, which is completely normal and should subside within a few days. I recommend wearing SPF 30 sun protection daily for at least 2 weeks after treatment to protect the new skin. Daily skincare is also recommended to help achieve the best results possible for your skin.
